Based on ICANN regulations, registrants must provide their contact information when registering a domain. This information is then displayed in the public WHOIS database, for anyone to see.
GoDaddy understands the importance of protecting customer privacy. That’s why all new registrations for eligible domains include free privacy protection forever. While GoDaddy previously redacted the customer’s personal details, the new upgraded privacy replaces the customer’s details with anonymized information in the public WHOIS directory. Privacy protection will be active by default, ensuring nobody will be able to see the customer’s contact information. In addition, customers will be provided with a private email address for domain inquiries, to prevent spam. Customers can setup the private email address to forward all, filtered, or no messages to their own inbox. Domains that were previously registered with GoDaddy will be upgraded with free privacy in the coming weeks.
Limiting the personal information that domain registrants have on the open web is another way GoDaddy supports small and growing businesses and helps enhance their safety online. To learn more, please visit GoDaddy Domains Privacy and Protection.
