GoDaddy Announces 3rd Annual .ME Scholarship Winners $100,000 Awarded to 10 Tech-Savvy Students

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (June 6, 2013) – After a record-breaking number of online applications, GoDaddy has selected 10 tech-savvy students as recipients of the third annual GoDaddy .ME Scholarship Program. The scholarship winners each received $10,000 toward tuition and supplies at the school of their choice.

Earlier this year, GoDaddy, the Web’s top platform for small businesses, invited U.S. students to apply by submitting an essay to describe how the Internet or other technology helped them and how they envision benefiting from technology in the future.

“I have a ton of respect for the students who applied for this scholarship because they represent the spirit of innovation,” said GoDaddy CEO Blake Irving. “These are students who want to change the world, and instead of just talking about it or waiting for someone else to get involved, they are moving forward to build something themselves right now … whether it’s an online business or a new technology, these students are set on changing the world for the better. That’s pretty cool!”

More than 2,500 online scholarship applications were submitted, making it the most successful year since starting the program in 2011. This year’s scholarship recipients are focused on making a difference in their communities with technology projects such as a voice-communication app to help people with speech disabilities, a student-tutoring program and platforms for art, science and photography.

One of this year’s scholarship recipients has a story that demonstrates giving back to the community through her website HelpingOurPeersExcel.com, a non-profit organization that educates and inspires youth to take part in community service programs. “It started as a small idea in my living room with my family and grew into something beyond my wildest dreams,” said scholarship recipient Jordyn Schara, who is set to attend the University of Wisconsin. “GoDaddy helps small businesses grow online and also makes it possible for students and young entrepreneurs like me to pursue my dreams of a higher education. GoDaddy’s Website Builder made creating a website easy. I also love the way it looks – it’s beautiful! I am now able to share my project photos, videos and information with the world.”
