GoDaddy Ready for Next Generation of Internet - 1st to Sign RAA Agreement Paves Way for New Domain Extensions & Other Customer Improvements

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (July 15, 2013) – GoDaddy, the Web’s top platform for small businesses , announced today it was the first major registrar to sign ICANN’s new Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA). The new agreement provides customers a better experience, allows registrars to offer the upcoming new gTLDs and sets the standard for the future of the Internet.

Signing the new agreement enables GoDaddy to offer the new top level domain names. This means, starting later this year, new domain name extensions like .SHOP, .PIZZA and ????. (meaning Web or Network in Arabic) are available for registration and GoDaddy can provide them to its more than 11 million customers.

“This agreement is a great step forward for the Internet,” said GoDaddy CEO Blake Irving. “It represents an important milestone in establishing the new gTLD program – which will help make the Web a better, more intricately structured resource for everyone. What comes after the ‘dot’ will soon be as important as what comes before it. For someone looking for a new domain name, this represents one of the biggest steps forward since the beginning of the internet.”

GoDaddy signed the agreement during the ICANN meeting in Durban, South Africa.

"GoDaddy's leadership in and contributions to drafting the final 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement were immensely valuable," said ICANN Vice President of DNS Industry Engagement Cyrus Namazi. "Being one of the first to adopt the agreement is another bold step in demonstrating the company's commitment and industry leadership. It raises the bar in providing added value and benefits to all registrants and to the industry."
